Last Saturday, both Gallery One & Aurora Colors Gallery had opening receptions for their new shows.

At Gallery One, it was really fun to see Sandra Speidel's new works. I had a chance to chat with Sandra before things got really busy. She has taken up more of a layering approach to her oil paintings that is working really well for her. Most are figurative with incredible motion. A couple of my favorites were depicted dancers. The one painting that really caught my eye was titled "Stride". It is 30" x 30" of a woman walking for exercise very purposefully. The aspect is above from behind her left shoulder. It seems like she will walk right out of the painting. I really enjoyed this show. There is a nice verity of size and price.

Aurora Colors Gallery installed a very different show. Directly from their description: Aurora Colors proudly presents Edward S. Curtis Limited Edition "Orotones", from the personal and private collections owned by the Huntington Historical Photographic Trust. Orotones are photographs developed on a proprietary photographic emulsion, bonded to glass, then chemically toned to produce the sepia-toned qualities that are evidenced in the final image. They are backed with the same processes used by Edward Curtis in his production of "Curt-Tones", later known as "Orotones" or "Goldtones" in his renowned depiction of "The North American Indian" images in gold."
